Collections stewardship and sustainability at Oysterponds Historical Society

Oysterponds Historical Society tells the story of Orient and East Marion, NY, two communities on the northeast tip of Long Island. I worked with the OHS staff and board to apply Active Collections principles to OHS’s collections planning efforts, helping them better understand the role of the collection in serving Oysterponds residents.

We set new guiding principles for collections stewardship, wrote an “active” collecting scope statement, and developed collections tiers of significance. I also made recommendations for collections care, space planning, and sustainability.
